Have you ever thought why some people strike better lunch conversations and why some of us fail to strike a chord professionally or at a personal front?
In the usual humdrum of life, we sometimes fail to strike a good conversation when we need to make it the most. One such occasion was when I met a long lost friend last month. We just bumped into each other at a café and both of us just could not go beyond a simple greeting. We were meeting after about a decade and we didn’t know where to start and how to proceed after a simple “Hi, Remember me!”
So we decided to chicken out of the situation and fumbled our ways in different directions. But as destiny had it, we met again and this time he invited me to his PG, the coming weekend. Since we met right in front of a very intriguing ad of Domino’s subwich, all I could think of was – “oh! Sure, lets catch up for a subwich” to accept the invitation. And later wondering, what made me say that, since I had never had one myself.
Finally, went to his place around lunch feeling a little awkward since now after all these years of being busy with the IT world, I had almost forgotten how to socialize. After we sat for some boring half an hour, the doorbell rang and the door opened to announce the inception of the most aromatic cheesy affair ever. Since, my tummy was already gurgling, I was immediately bowled over by the white, blue and red boxes of meal. My friend had actually ordered veg subwich along with vegetarian pizzas and to my embarrassment he even observed my face had lit up brighter seeing the order.
As we attacked the meal like we did in college, laughing delightfully, I became more comfortable forgetting all the formalities and we were same old friends again. Finally we were not making effort to strike a conversation. Our expressions and smile which were interaction enough while we were enjoying our meal oozing with cheese. The new subwich was actually worth it, with interesting triangular shaped buttery crust sandwiching a three bean patty and yummy peppers and of course smooth and flavorful cheese made it my favorite almost instantly.

And rather than talking about the professions we were in and how and where we had been from so many years, we were actually discussing subwich. It had filled up our mind with so many different thoughts, and we concluded it was surely better than the triangular bread pakora and the sandwich we used to gobble down during our college years.
And the best part were the selfies we had clicked with it and shared on Facebook to tease our old friends. We had never got so many likes before and then the never ending chat it had led to from our old gang of ten of us from across the globe.
